the editing bin #4: Let the blood feud begin (40:30)
After a year of watching pre-teens swoon over quasi-vampires, the ladies were happy to review a film they could finally sink their teeth into. Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009) might not have the brilliant Kate Beckinsale or her director-husband Len Wiseman at the helm, but it serves to finish the story that they so brilliantly gave first life. In their honor, Rachel, Stephanie, and Becca have chosen to dedicate this episode to classic or otherwise laughable depictions of infamous bloodsuckers. Bela Lugosi, in Dracula (1931), defined the enigmatic monster that the masses have come to know and love, and many caped imposters try to equal his ethereal chill. Some, like Gerard Butler in Dracula 2000 (2000) fail so spectacularly that their performance becomes humorous for all of the wrong reasons.
The Critic’s Pick for this week is Young Frankenstein (1974)
