the editing bin #3: To “black hats” and the black hat who wears a … black hat (54:26)

Even the evil galactic dictator Xenu admits feeling a pang of sympathy after seeing Tom Cruise’s portrayal of Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg in Valkyrie (2008). Indeed, the film has caused quite a stir; from Germany refusing to accept its lead actor, to the mixed reviews it has received in the US. Not bad for the latest in a series of WWII stories told from a “black hat” perspective. Rachel, Stephanie, and Becca return to a couple of its thematic predecessors in Sophie Scholl: The Final Days (2005) and Letters from Iwo Jima (2007).

The Critic’s Pick for this week is the notorious A Clockwork Orange (1971)
