the editing bin #29: Yes! But, you can’t just say it, man. You’ve gotta feel it in your blood and guts! If you wanna rock, you gotta break the rules! Dewey Finn, School of Rock (2003) (47:05)

Hollywood and the music industry feed us pop stars like candy. The radio is littered with one-hit wonders. But every so often someone comes along who revolutionizes music as we know it. Their music speaks for their generation, gives hope to the lost, and reminds us all how to groove like no one's watching.  That only makes the tragedy more acute if their lives are ended prematurely.  This week the editing bin looks at the musical legacies of three such artists: Michael Jackson in This is It (2009), Kurt Cobain in Kurt and Courtney (1998), and John Lennon in Imagine: John Lennon (1988).

The Critic's Pick for this week is The Lost Boys (1987).
