the editing bin #1: Thank you for the music (19:44)
Nothing entertains on a sweltering summer day like watching six middle-aged people disco dancing on a Grecian beach. After seeing Mamma Mia! (2008) Rachel Lee-Carey and Stephanie Jonasson hustled to the studio to record their first episode, and argue about the artistic virtue of using modern pop music to tell a story. No conversation on this subject would be complete without taking a look back at two recent films that set the bar for this new kind of musical: Across the Universe (2007) and Moulin Rouge (2001). Despite their avid love of music, Rachel and Stephanie find themselves at odds over whether these films work and why.
